May 9: Feast of St. Louise de Marillac
In the article “The Concept of Consecration in the Writings of Louise de Marillac,” Sr. Carmen Urrizburu, DC, notes that in the convent where Louise was placed as a child after the death of her father,
she came to understand that ‘consecration’ implied silence and prayer, liturgical worship and community life, an ascetical life, interior devoutness, vows…”
but as time passed, Louise
clothed herself in an attitude that enabled her to imitate Jesus on a permanent basis… an attitude that was received as gift and grace and that led her to configure her life with that of Jesus.”
