“L’Osservatore Romano” announced on Wednesday, 22 December 2010, that Father José Carlos CHACOROWSKI, C.M., currently the Director of the Daughters of Charity of the Province of Amazonia in the Archdiocese of Belém do Pará, Brazil, was named Auxilliary Bishop of São Luis do Maranhão, Brazil.
The members of the entire Congregation of the Mission rejoice at this good news and extend to Father José Carlos their sincere good wishes and assure him of their prayers accompanying him in his new mission.
Here, briefly, is some information concerning our confrere:
Father José Carlos CHACOROWSKI was born in Curitiba 26 December 1956. He was admitted into the Congregation of the Mission 15 January 1977 and ordained a priest 2 July 1980.
In 1981 Father José Carlos was part of a team of formators of the little Seminary of St. Jean Marie Vianney in the Diocese of Palma, Paraná.
From 1982 until 1987 he was a missionary at Bikoro in the Democratic Republic of Congo.
From 1988 until 1995 he was part of a pastoral team to truck drivers.
From 1996 until 2005 he served as Director of the Daughters of Charity of the Province of Curitiba.
In 2005 he was named pastor of the parish of Sr. Bom Jesus dos Perdões in Guaraqueçaba, Paraná.
And in 2009 he was named Director of the Daughters of Charity of the Province of Amazonia.
Among his different services we must not forget that Father José Carlos has served with zeal and efficacy in the role of national moderator of the Vincentian Marian Youth of Brazil.

Fr. Jose Carlos Chacorowski CM (pronounced: Ha-tzo-rov-skee) was born on December 26, 1956 in Curitiba, Parana, Brazil of Polish emigrants. He was admitted to Congregation of the Mission in the Province of Curitiba on January 15, 1977. He completed philosophy studies in Seminário São Vicente de Paulo in Araucária, Parana and then studied theology in the Studium Theologicum in Curitiba, Parana. He pronounced vows on April 16, 198 and was ordained a priest by Pope John Paul II during his visit in Rio de Janeiro on July 2, 1980
In 1981 he worked as formator in diocesan St. Jean Maria Vianney Minor Seminary (diocese of Palma) in Francisco Beltrão, Parana. From 1982 to 1987 he was a missionary in the Democratic Republic of Congo (then Zaire). He work in the oldest Vincentian mission station of Bikoro on Lake Tumba. (together with number of Polish Vincentians).

In 1988 Father returned to Brazil and was assigned to mobile mission team called PASTORAL RODOVIÁRIA. These ministry is unique to the Province of Curitiba. Missionaries travel all across the country driving trucks adapted for mobile chapels. They stop at truck parking lots, fuel stations and other places and give retreats, popular missions and liturgical services as well as hear confessions there. .
Next, in 1996 appointed Director of Daughters of Charity of the Province of Curitiba and held this post until 2005 when he was assigned pasotr of Sr. Bom Jesus dos Perdões Parish in Guaraqueçaba, Parana. In 2009 named Director of Daughters of Charity in the Province of Amazonia in Belem, Northern Brazil. Meanwhile, among his other ministries, he was national moderator of Vincentian Marian Youth (VMY) in Brazil.
On December 22, 2010 Pope Benedict XVI has appointed him Auxiliary Bishop of Metropolitan Archdiocese of São Luís do Maranhão in São Luís, Maranhão, and Titular Bishop of Casae Nigrae. With this nomination he will be fourth living bishop, member of Vincentian Province of Curitiba

Promoted Archdiocese on December 2, 1921 and Metropolitan Archdiocese on February 10, 1922 . Area of 13,112 km² (5,062 sq. mi) . among 1,309,000 population 943,000 are Catholics.. There are 76 diocesan priests, 1 permanent deacon and 249 religious in the Archdiocese.
