The FAMVIN Digital Network
The Vincentian Family is a movement made up of more than 160 institutions and some 4,000,000 people who follow Jesus Christ, serving the poor, as did St. Vincent de Paul, St. Louise de Marillac and many other believers who, over the last four centuries, have enriched the Vincentian charism.

2010 Labor Day Statement – A New “Social Contract”
The United States Catholic Conference 2010 Labor Day Statement “A New “Social Contract” for Today’s “New Things” echos the title of Leo the XIII’s “Rerum Novarum” (Of New Things”).
It calls for Americans “to protect the life and dignity of each worker in a renewed and robust economy”. As a Vincentian footnote some might be surprised to know that it was a member of the Vincent de Paul Society who advised Leo the XIII on this first of the great Social Encyclicals and that Ozanam anticipated, and actually prepared the ground for, the recognition of the social issues in calling for a living wage.

SVDP up and running in China
The Society of St Vincent de Paul has established 20 parish-based charity centres in China, but must operate under a different name to placate a government suspicious of the charity organisation’s ties to the Pope. The operations are the fruit of a year of planning before discussions with the Chinese government began three years ago, which Mr Thio said was receptive to the Society “so long as we followed the norms of the country – the (parish charities) must report to the parish community, which in turn reports to the local council”.
