Shaun McCarty’s classic biography “Ozanam: a layman for now” is now available in the Vincentian Encyclopedia. Originally published with his permission in an earlier version of the famvin.org website we are happy to republish this timely and insightful biography.
After a fine introduction succeeding chapters develop his cultural context, provides a biographical sketch, relates him to the spirit of the Gospel and St. Vincent dePaul as key pieces to understanding the emergence of Ozanam’s vision for being Christian in the modern world. It concludes with crises and decsions in implementing the vision and why he is a model for today.
