Rockin’ and Rollin’ with the Sisters of Leavenworth seems like a very creative way for the Sisters of Charity of Leavenworth to interact with students on the campus of the University of St. Mary. Many of their students had never met sisters before.
USM students visited with Sister Barbara Sellers (right) and Sister Marie Carmel Dunning during the first Rockin’ and Rollin’ with the Sisters and Students on the front campus of the University of Saint Mary, Leavenworth. The event introduced students to SCLs who answered their questions about the Community, its connection with the university and other history and traditions. Click the headline to enjoy more photos.
The USM campus rocked on Sunday, Aug. 17 as students met SCLs scattered throughout the front circle of the Leavenworth campus. The meet and greet began with the arrival of Mother Xavier Ross by golf cart. Things revved up when a group of Sisters, candidates and friend took the “stage” with a great rendition — dance and song — of “Rock around the Clock.”From there, students rotated to visit different SCLs.
Students carried index cards with suggested questions to ask the Sisters. Their goal was to learn more about the Community and traditions, and then obtain signatures from eight SCLs to qualify for the prize drawing.
Several students had never met Sisters before, and this outdoor setting gave them the opportunity. The afternoon ended with Mass in Annunciation Chapel.
