In my imagination, I tried to depict Elizabeth on that unique occasion as a young, widowed mother of five. She has entered Saint Peter’s Church, Barclay Street in New York City, and approaches the altar rail to kneel and offer her communion for her “dear little ones,” and the repose of the soul of her beloved husband, William, who had died in Italy three months prior.

This original bronze bust was unveiled at a ceremony at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church in Shrub Oak, NY, in upper Westchester County.
