SEVEN HUNDRED YOUNG PEOple are expected to walk at 7 a.m. on Oct. 22 from Brittany Bay to the National Shrine of Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal in Posadas Village, Muntinlupa.
Couple Laurie and Ronnie Javier will lead the youth in this moving event that is part of the year-long celebration of the 25th anniversary of the shrine.
The youth, from various walks of life but belonging to the shrine’s parish, regularly met to come up with an activity that would enable them to honor our Blessed Mother on this special milestone. With abundant youthful energy and creativity, the group came up with the event called “Walk with Mary.”
The morning activity will include an exhibition of wake-up cheers and prayer chants. The young people will pray the rosary and sing lively Marian songs during the walk.
The P10 registration fee will go to the Skills and Training Livelihood Center.
The 173rd feast day of Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal
will be marked on Nov. 27, the day in 1830 when the Virgin appeared to Sister Catherine Laboure in the chapel of her convent.
Our Lady appeared standing on a globe, her feet crushing a serpent. In her hand was a smaller globe said to “represent the world and each person in particular.” Dazzling rays of light emanated from her jeweled fingers, symbols of the graces which would be bestowed on all who asked for them, received from Jesus through the intercession of Mary. Completing the figure was the inscription: “O Mary conceived without sin, Pray for us who have recourse to thee.”
The gold globe in her hand vanished and Our Lady’s hands were lowered although remaining outstretched under the weight of the treasures of graces obtained through her intercession.
Then Mary spoke to Catherine: “Have a medal struck upon this model. Those who wear it will receive great graces, especially if they wear it round their necks.”
The vision then seemed to turn to show the reverse of the medal: the letter “M” from which arose a cross with a bar at its base; below the monogram were twin hearts—the Sacred Heart of Jesus crowned with thorns and the Immaculate Heart of Mary pierced with a sword. Twelve stars representing the 12 tribes of Israel and the 12 apostles and all of us in modern times encircled the image.
