Fr. Pedro Castilo offers of review of the Final Document of the JMV
FORMATION PROCESSES AND ENDWAYS IN JMV:

This is the title of the latest official document published by the VMY International Council. This is made at the request of the 1st General Assembly held five years ago in order to improve the quality of “a catechetical formation process for maturing in faith _ a process of catechumenal inspiration which has its stages, its objectives and its activities” which is being talked about in the International Statutes (11.2.)

This document has opted to give general guidelines to come up or review the formative itineraries of the VMY in each country, given the diversity of situations, cultural contexts and needs of its members.

The basic response of the International Council is that, beginning with its own realities and needs, the Association in each country or group of countries must come up with a global project of formation by stages, contextualized and inculturated, which allows young members to attain a strong and clear human, Christian and Vincentian identity. Without knowing the importance of the catechetical materials , the advisors and officers in VMY are invited to take care of the profile of the catechists and focus their attention in the process itself and in the fundamental or key experiences which allow the young person to personalize the process and make it his/ her own.

This document also gathers, perhaps officially for the first time, the precise guidelines about the endways of the young people at the culmination of their catechetical process and make their vocational option. It boldly presents to the young people the different vocational options, within the framework of the Vincentian Family (natural place for the endways of VMY,) such that they will be able to live-out a stable commitment as adults within the Church and in the society.

The recently held 2nd VMY General Assembly acknowledged the importance of this document for the course of the Association in the next five years and has committed to all its members, ” We will continue studying and distributing the document “Formation Processes and Endways in JMV,” making it known in all levels of the Association. (AG 2005 Final Document 2.3.2) It is a document for obligatory reading of all the members of the Vincentian Family interested in the formation of the young people.
