The Society of St. Vincent de Paul Galveston-Houston Council has created the Vincentian Summer Mission to invite young adults from around the nation to take time to be of service to our neighbors who are in need, including those who have been displaced by Hurricane Katrina and Hurricane Rita.
Our relief efforts in providing for Katrina and Rita survivors continues to be a major part of our ministry and we depend heavily on volunteers. With this said, we are calling on our extended Vincentian family to help in the recruitment of new volunteers to assist us. We would also like to ask for your help in the screening process of those applicants who may be interested in your area.

We hope that you will read the enclosed information and pass it on to any young adult who you feel would be a good candidate for this mission. All housing, food and transportation around Houston will be provided for them during their “Mission Trip” stay with us. It is our hope that when the participants return home, they will be inspired to continue the work of the Society in your area. We promise to do our best in planting the SVDP seed.

Every applicant will receive a letter explaining the program, guidelines, an application and a reference form. We are asking each volunteer to have a Vincentian not only write a reference letter but also to be interviewed by them (we have included an interview question form for you) You, as a Vincentian, know the type of work they will be doing, the type of reality they will witness and the gifts and talents they need in order to bring love to those they encounter. You can help us in assessing if the applicant is ready for the type of work they will be doing here. Your feedback is important to us!

Enclosed you will find the info packet and the form that will help you lead the interview for those interested in helping us serve our community better. If you have any questions or want more information, please contact Annette Villa, our Youth and Young Adults Coordinator at 713 741 8234 or annette.villa-hereter@svdphouston.org or feel free to give me a call at this same number.

You and your members continue to be in our daily prayers, please keep us in yours.

In His Service,

Wendy
