Reading Is Fundamental, the nation’s oldest and largest children’s
and family literacy organization, and the Dollar General Literacy
Foundation today announced a three-year partnership to fund local
literacy programs that will provide 58,000 free, new books to more
than 19,000 children across the South and MidwestBeginning this year and continuing at least through 2007, Dollar General will provide more than $430,000 to create and sustain 40 new RIF programs and supplementary funds for nine existing programs in select schools in Florida, Kentucky, Missouri, Mississippi, Ohio, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Tennessee, and Virginia. Dollar General also plans to coordinate employee volunteer opportunities at each of the schools.
