Three years ago, that date meant little to most Americans unless it was someone’s birthday or some other special commemoration. Two years ago, that date became one of the most significant in American history.
New York City. Washington, D.C. Shanksville, Pennsylvania. Two powerful cities that define our daily lives and another, more humble one, that represents everyday life in America. Who could have imagined upon waking that clear September 11 morning that life in this country would change forever? People went off to work, children to school, others to pursuits around the home or elsewhere, as they had every day. Errant planes, however, captured by evil men, wandered off course to destroy the peace and innocence of that September day, the peace and innocence of our national life.
