The Vincentian Refugee Centre launched it’s 2001 Annual Report on Monday 24th June, 2002 at St. Peter’s at 2.30 pm. The Guest Speaker was Her Excellency Melanie Verwoerd, South African Ambassador to Ireland. The report highlights the dreadful loneliness and isolation experienced by asylum seekers as well as the tangible problems of finding somewhere to affordable to live and the language, educational and cultural barriers faced by them – and the persistent racism they also face.
