Dear Sisters and Brothers,
May the peace of the Lord be with us always!
The periodical of the General Curia of the Congregation of the Mission, Vincentiana, will dedicate its next issue to the conferences that were presented during the Vincentian Month (Paris, July 9-26, 2002) which had as its theme Advisors of the Vincentian Family. Sixty-four Daughters of Charity, 44 missionaries, 2 religious women from other congregations and one lay person participated in this gathering. At different times, the international Directors of the “principal” branches of the Vincentian Family were present and addressed the assembly about their respective associations. It was the first time that a Vincentian Month was dedicated to this theme. The meeting received a positive evaluation, both the spirit that was lived there as well as the quality and the content of the presentations.
In this issue of Vincentiana, which will be about 250 pages, you will find material that will be very useful for the work of the advisors of these groups of the Vincentian Family. Articles will treat the qualities of a good formator, Saint Vincent’s experience of the laity, elements of unity in the incentian Family, Saint Louise: Animator of the Confraternities of Charity, the role of the advisor of the Vincentian Lay groups, the juridical dimension of the Vincentian Associations, and other articles.
In this same issue you will also find valuable information about the identity and present reality of the Saint Vincent de Paul Society, the International Association of Charities, Marian Youth Groups, the Miraculous Medal Association and MISEVI.
Two of the “official” suggestions that came from this assembly were,
1) design a systematic formation program for each branch of the family, a program that would give special attention to the initial stage of formation;
2) that the provinces of the Congregation of the Mission and the Daughters of Charity prepare advisors to work with the distinct branches of the Vincentian Family, again giving special attention to this in their initial stages of formation. We believe that the material that will be published in Vincentiana will be useful for the accomplishment of these goals.
Those who participated in the Vincentian Month will receive a copy of Vincentiana, but perhaps you want to receive additional copies to use for formation, for future advisors, for sharing during national gatherings of the directors of the Vincentian Family, etc. Therefore we offer this opportunity to order additional copies of this special issue at the cost of $18.00 a copy (postage included). We hope to have this material in your hands before the end of the year.
