DC-logoWalking in the footsteps of the original Daughters of Charity, who came to central Texas in 1902 with the Seton Infirmary in Austin, Seton Medical Center in Kyle will bring “a new standard of safe, effective and compassionate health care to Hays County.”

Referring to Kyle’s nearly five-fold population growth to about 28,000 in 2009, Kyle Mayor Mike Gonzale said, “We want to be a quality community, not for prestige or status, but for the life which it gives our citizens.”

Gonzalez compared the building of the hospital to a creation of sacred ground, saying that “it’s a beacon for the hope of a community that can come together and support a project like this.”

Sister Nanette Gentile of the Daughters of Charity spoke early at the opening ceremony, saying the community has welcomed the new hospital with collaboration and warmth.

Ascension Healthcare President Robert Henkel said Seton is an important part of Ascension Health, which is the largest Catholic and largest non-profit health care system in America, with a focus on caring for the poor and underprivileged. Henkel thanked the city of Kyle and Hays County officials for recognizing the importance of the hospital.
