The Daughters of Charity site writes … “Saint Vincent and Saint Louise wanted the Daughters of Charity to be Daughters of the Church and Daughters of the Parish. Wherever they were sent, they worked in the ministry of the local church, “for the pleasure of God.”
“At the end of the 19th century they were called to Saint Martha House in the Vatican by Pope Leo XIII for various services which have evolved over the years (care of the sick, welcoming pilgrims, a canteen for personnel, dispensary…). Since that time the Sisters have always been at Domus Sanctae Marthae.

During the Conclave of 2005 and that of last month, they discreetly brought their contributions to the material preparation of Saint Martha House. They were able to pray with the Cardinals, to welcome the new Pope in joy and faith, and to receive his blessing. Their presence at Saint Martha reflects the fidelity of the Company to the Church and obedience to the Sovereign Pontiff.
