On International Woman’s Day the AIC, announced that they will gather in Bangkok to foster education for women as a tool to long-lasting poverty alleviation. The AIC, the first of Vincent dePaul’s foundations, International Assembly of the Delegates March 14-17, 2013 Bangkok, Thailand
Under the patronage of UNESCO, Fondation de France, and Missio, 120 AIC women volunteers coming from over 20 different countries will meet in Bangkok, Thailand, for the International Assembly and Training Seminar of the anti-poverty network AIC.
“Education – a two-way process. Educating ourselves to work together”, is the title of this year’s gathering, which will take place at the Assumption University’s Suvarnabhumi Campus in Bangkok, Thailand from 14 to 17 March 2013. AIC is convinced that education, especially that of women, is key to poverty reduction. In the over 16.000 local projects that AIC volunteers are engaged worldwide, they have observed that education of women, with reciprocity at the basis of the process, has a long lasting impact on the community’s development.
In Bangkok, AIC volunteers will deepen their knowledge on how to make this happen everywhere where they work alongside poverty stricken populations. During 4 days they will share best practices through conferences and workshops. After the election of the, new executive board of the association, the conclusions of the meeting will be take the shape of operational guidelines which will gear AIC volunteers’ activities for the next two years.
Every two years the International Association of Charities – AIC gathers Catholic women volunteers from all over the world who are engaged in poverty reduction and alleviation locally. 80% of the beneficiaries of their projects are women and girls, reflecting clearly the international renowned statistic that 70% of the poorest in the planet are women. AIC international network counts with over 100.000 members from 53 countries in Africa, the Americas, Asia and Europe.
In the United States the AIC is better known through the Ladies of Charity USA or LCUSA.
