On December 17, 2012, during the ceremony at the Itamaraty Palace, the President of the Republic, Dilma Roussef, delivered the National Award of Human Rights of 2012 in the category of “Guarantee of the Rights of Elderly People” to Sister Terezinha Tortelli, Daughter of Charity of the Province of Curitiba – National Coordinator of the Ministry for Elderly Persons.
Sister Terezinha Tortelli was awarded with the highest honor granted by the Brazilian government to entities and individuals that develop actions in the area of human rights. Sister Terezinha is nationally known and respected for her admirable and impressive work at the Ministry for Elderly Persons in the Conference of the Bishops of Brazil, an organization committed to the actualization of the rights of elderly people in Brazil.
In receiving the honor, the national coordinator of the Ministry for Elderly Persons said, “This Award is a recognition to the valuable work and dedication of all VOLUNTEERS of the Ministry for Elderly Persons, people full of love and tenderness, committed to the cause of the elderly, therefore I DEDICATE ALL THIS HONOR TO YOU”.
