Depaul USA learned that it will receive $2.1 million in new federal and city funding to develop a 27 unit permanent housing project at the old St. Raymond’s convent in Philadelphia. This tremendously exciting new project will double the number of people we serve in Philly. Throughout much of 2012, we will be working to make this project a reality. In May, we plan on opening a gallery on the first floor ofDepaul House that will be a place of art and encounter-where the residents of Depaul House and the larger community can meet, engage and be mutually enriched.
On March 13, HUD announced funding for new projects to help and house homeless people across the United States. To quote HUD Secretary Shawn Donovan, “Today’s grantees will join the tens of thousands of local programs that are on the front lines of helping those who might otherwise be living on our streets.” Depaul USA is proud to announce that our proposal for permanent supportive housing for people with complex medical conditions was among the projects funded! We have a lot a work ahead of us before St. Raymond’s House opens its doors to some of the most vulnerable Philadelphians in May 2013. Nevertheless, we’re excited to share this news with you as we seek to serve those among us most in need of support.
