Under the headline “Catholic sisters collect food to celebrate consecrated life” a western Pennsylvania newspaper writes “ To prepare for the celebration of World Day for Consecrated Life on Feb. 5, participating sisters will host food drives at their respective locations. Not only will the collected items be distributed in each specific locale, but donors will be welcomed into many of the sisters’ homes.”
On Feb. 5 at noon, Roman Catholic churches will toll their bells to honor the past, present and future of living a consecrated life.
“They’re inviting people to join them in service to others,” said Robyn Moeller, development assistant for the Sisters of St. Francis of theProvidence of God in Whitehall, “and to learn about the religious life.”
The sisters also hope the food drive will help build relationships between the sisters and their neighbors.
Among the orders participating in the weeklong food drive are the Benedictine Sisters of Pittsburgh, Ross Township; Felician Sisters of North America, Coraopolis; School Sisters of St. Francis, Bellevue; Sisters of Charity of Nazareth, McCandless; Sisters of Charity of Seton Hill, Greensburg; and Sisters of Divine Providence, McCandless.
