Founded by Pierre J. Triest, the Vincent de Paul of his native Belgium, the Brothers of Charity through their NGO Global Action Against Poverty invite all members of the Vincentian Family to join in their petition for better mental health care worldwide. This digital petition, as well as paper petitions from countries where their NGO is present, will be brought to the attention of policy makers in various countries on World Mental Health Day 2011 (October 10th).
They ask us to help theme give a strong message and sign this petition.
They focus on two core values:
- their personal rehabilitation as unique human being
- their social reintegration in society as active members of their community
Our family is well represented in this ministry. An International Interdisciplinary Conference in Ireland was co-sponsored by the Daughters of Charity and RESPECT in Ireland, and the Office of Rehabilitation and Disability Studies at Michigan State University. The conference washeld on October 16, 2010 at the Carton House, Maynooth, County Kildare.
Reflections
- What other Vincentian Family groups are advocating on behalf of these very vulnerable of our brothers and sisters?
- How many mental and developmentally challenged people do you know well enough to be concerned about this petition?
