The “Story of the White Tablecloth”, a story  which goes back to Vincent de Paul himself, is related on this 4:18 YouTube video clip by Fr John Rybolt CM,  Vincentian Scholar in Residence at DePaul University in Chicago IL.  The clip was posted on August 15, 2011.  Fr Rybolt goes on to explain how the “White Tablecloth” still has significance in our own times. Some reflections…

  • What can we learn about treating the marginalized from this concern of Vincent?
  • Vincent felt strongly enough about such dignity to include it in his guidelines. Do we?
  • Vincent wanted his followers to visit the marginalized in their homes. How many do we visit?
