The international site of the SVDP has posted a significant update (pdf) on its involvement in Japan. Currently, there are 4 Central Councils (Yokohama Central Council, Osaka Central Council, Fukuoka Central Council and Nagasaki Central Council) and 27 parish conferences, one of which is in Sendai where it was hit badly in the earthquake and tsunami. The total number of members is over 270. Main activity of SSVP Japan includes visiting poor families, hospitals and homes for handicapped people, helping the unemployed and homeless. The first Japan SSVP conference was formed in 1913 and the National Council was established in 1917.
