Frederic’s E-Gazette, the electronic newsletter from the National Council of the Society of St. Vincent de Paul, asks for swift action regarding the extreme budget cuts being proposed in the Emergency Food and Shelter Program. As Vincentians, we have a duty to protect the most vulnerable among us, and these cuts will not only put the people who are currently at risk in even more peril, but also could swell the ranks of the needy.
Your help is urgently needed: Please join us in our effort to turn back the cuts by contacting your respective Congressional delegations (House and Senate) ASAP, to educate them on the impact a cut this severe would have on your community’s EFSP recipient agencies and organizations.
To contact your Congressional delegation, you can either call the Congressional switchboard at (202) 224-3121 or 202-225-3121 for operator assistance or log on to http://thomas.loc.gov/
” The problem which divides people today is not a political problem; it is a social one. It is a matter of knowing which will get the upper hand, the spirit of selfishness or the spirit of sacrifice; whether society will go for ever-increasing enjoyment and profit, or for everyone devoting themselves to the common good…” Blessed Frederic Ozanam
