Record Numbers of Full-time Volunteers Serve in Faith-based Programs according to Catholic Volunteer Network. CVN is the professional association serving full-time, faith-based volunteer programs, including Jesuit Volunteer Corps, Claretian Volunteers, and 180 other programs. It assists its member programs with recruitment, training, and administration of the AmeriCorps grant, and is probably best known as the publisher of Response, its annual directory of volunteer programs. At its annual meeting in late October, Catholic Volunteer Network (formerly Catholic Network of Volunteer Service or CNVS) released its 2009-2010 report showing higher numbers of volunteers than in previous years. In total, 14,488 volunteers served in their 182 member programs. Of these, 12,767 volunteers served domestically with 3,068 (24%) serving nine months or longer, and 1,721 volunteers served internationally, with 638 (37%) serving nine months or longer. Not all volunteers are recent college graduates: Slightly more than 25% of volunteers were 25 years old or older. Many programs also accept volunteers with minor children. The website of Catholic Volunteer Network also has a searchable database (that is, the Response book online) for people exploring the possibility of full-time, faith-based volunteering. Prospective volunteers can search by desired area of ministry, preferred geographical placement (both domestically and internationally), and other characteristics of 182 member programs.
