Recent inquires have been made with the Visitatrices, Visitors or Regional Superiors of the Philippines, China, Thailand and Vietnam regarding the recent Typhoon Megi. Obviously with disasters of this nature there is always damage and human suffering.
Of major concern was that there had been no communication with the Daughters of Charity living and working in northern Philippines because of power outages. News from them now states that they are all safe, but there has been some damage to their buildings and those of the Brothers of Charity.
In Thailand, although the Sisters and other members of the Vincentian Family have not been directly affected, many of the poor have been devastated by the flooding. The Vincentian Family is cooperating with the Bishops Conference of Thailand to provide assistance to them.
At this time there is little damage in Taiwan, although there was some flooding of the Church and house of the CM in southern Taiwan during the typhoon in September.
