On February 27, Daughters of Charity in Italy celebrated the 150th anniversary of the establishment of the Province of Naples. Special celebrations took place February 28 to March 2 with participation of Sr. Evelyne Franc DC, Superioress General and Sr. Rosa Maria Napolitano DC, General Councilor.
Daughters of Charity arrived to Naples in 1843. The autonomous canonical province was constituted on February 27, 1860. The province contained house in Naples, Campagnia, Abruzzo and Sicily.
Anniversary celebrations started on Sunday, February 28 with prayer of Lauds in the morning. Following was official welcoming in the Santa Luisa Auditorium by Visitatrice, Sr. Maria Rosaria Matraga DC and Archivist General Sr. Maria Luisa Storchi DC. Next, Sr. Cecilia de Giuseppe DC presented lecture on historic view of the Province titled “New Dawn for the Poor in Southern Italy”. The last point of the agenda before lunch was opening of “Our History in Photographs 1860 -2010” exhibition in the Provincial Library.
In the afternoon Sr. Evelyne Franc DC addressed participants of the celebration. Following was the solemn Eucharist preseided by Msgr Baniamino Depalma CM, archbishop of Noli. Day’s events ended with Enrico Caruso Music Academy choir concert. Maestro Giuseppe Schirone conducted.
Monday, March 1, started with Lauds and Eucharist. Whole morning was dedicated to a meeting and dialog of Superioress General with Servant Sisters and other Sisters. After Lunch, Sr. Evelyne visited Casa Santo Vincente and senior and sick sisters in the infirmary of the Provincial House. Late in the afternoon there was a session of Provincial Council. Vespers in the evening and the feast reception with Mother General participating ended the day.
On Tuesday, March 2 Sr. Evelyne visited Pompei in the early morning and at noon departed to Paris from the airport in Naples.
