A joint project of The worldwide Vincentian Family, Fonkoze, DePaul University, and the Haitian Hometown Association
Initiated on the occasion of the 350th anniversary of the deaths of St. Louise de Marillac and St. Vincent de Paul
This year marks the 350th anniversary of the deaths of St. Louis de Marillac and St. Vincent de Paul and an opportunity to celebrate their historical, spiritual and charitable legacy. It is a time for the global Vincentian community to pay homage to the love and service they offered to the poor.
As part of our worldwide celebration, the Vincentian Family has initiated a project, Zafen.org, in partnership with Fonkoze, the largest microfinance institution in Haiti, to empower sustainable, economic development in Haiti. Zafen, Creole for “It’s our business,” has been developed to bring together a global community of lenders and donors who believe in the power of entrepreneurship to bolster the Haitian community and to create jobs for those living in some of the poorest conditions in the world. The project has now been made all the more timely and vital due to the devastating Jan. 12 earthquake.
Zafen.org is a unique opportunity to make a long-term difference in rebuilding Haiti …
- Loans or donations of any size can give individuals a chance to build resources and to exit conditions of poverty.
- Your loans or donations are directed to projects in Haiti, rather than to individuals, encouraging greater long-term success of the projects.
- You are linked in real-time to projects that need funding and can easily track your loan—you can “plant a seed” and watch it grow.
We are pleased to announce Zafen.org will be launched worldwide on April 1, 2010. In the meantime, there are a number of things you can do to help ensure this project is a success!
- Visit our temporary website (www.zafen.org) and register to be notified of the official launch.
- Discuss with your group (community, conference, parish, school), family and friends the types of projects you would like to support, either as lenders or donors. Consider forming lending groups to support larger projects!
- Share information with others, both inside and outside the Vincentian community, about this unique opportunity to contribute to sustainable, economic development in Haiti.

Emprendido en la ocasión del 350 aniversario de la muerte de Santa Luisa de Marillac y San Vicente de Paúl
Este año marca el 350 aniversario de la muerte de Santa Luisa de Marillac y San Vicente de Paul y nos ofrece la oportunidad de celebrar sus legados históricos, espirituales y caritativos. Es una ocasión para la comunidad vicenciana mundial poder rendir homenaje al amor y servicio que ellos brindaron a los pobres.
Como parte de nuestra celebración mundial la Familia Vicenciana ha iniciado el proyecto, www.zafen.org , en conjunto con Fonkoze, la institución más grande de micro-finanza en Haití, para capacitar el desarrollo económico sostenible en Haití. Zafen, criollo por “Es nuestra responsabilidad”, ha sido desarrollado para reunir una comunidad mundial de prestamistas y donantes que creen en el poder de la fuerza empresarial para fortalecer la comunidad Haitiana y crear empleos para personas que están viviendo en unas de las condiciones más pobres del mundo. El proyecto ahora es aun más oportuno y vital debido a la devastación causada por el terremoto del 12 de enero.
www.zafen.org es una oportunidad única de hacer una diferencia a largo plazo en la reconstrucción de Haití.
- Préstamos o donaciones de cualquier cantidad pueden dar individuos la oportunidad de crear recursos y salir de las condiciones de pobreza.
- Sus préstamos o donaciones están destinados a los proyectos en Haití, y no a individuos, fomentando así el éxito a largo plazo de los proyectos.
- Están enlazados al momento a proyectos que necesitan fondos y pueden seguir la trayectoria de sus préstamos fácilmente — ustedes pueden sembrar una semilla y verla crecer.
Nos complace anunciar que www.zafen.org será lanzado a nivel mundial el día 1ro de abril del 2010. Mientras tanto hay varias cosas que pueden hacer para asegurar el éxito de este proyecto:
- Visitar nuestra página temporal (www.zafen.org) y registrarse para ser notificado del lanzamiento oficial.
- Dialogar con su grupo (comunidad, conferencia, parroquia, escuela) familia y amigos sobre los tipos de proyectos que les gustaría apoyar como donantes o prestamistas. Considere formar un grupo de prestamistas para apoyar proyectos mayores.
- Compartir información con otros, dentro y fuera de la comunidad Vicenciana, sobre esta oportunidad única de contribuir al desarrollo económico sostenible en Haití.
Durante las próximas semanas esperamos con ilusión compartir con ustedes más noticiás sobre esta oportunidad tan significante a celebrar las vidas de Santa Luisa de Marillac y San Vicente de Paúl y a hacer una diferencia perdurable en las vidas de los necesitados.
