Fr. José Vicente, Visitor of the CM Province of Barcelona, shares brief impressions with the Superior General. (English translation courtesy of Toma tn Poland.)
“We can share the news with you that missionaries men and women in Honduras are well. Jpwever there was shock and grief over the tragedy.
The earthquake in the area of the Bahía Islands, 60 kms from Roatan, caused the whole country to suffer its effects.. Thank God, however, ;osses were smaller than they could have occurred.
Areas where the Daughters of Charity and the Vincentians work: Moskitia, Tegucigalpa and San Pedro Sula are all fine.
Unfortunately in the area of La Ceiba, Tela and Puerto Cortes (North Coast) some people have died, including children, when some roof construction collapsed.
Both in San Pedro Sula and Tegucigalpa, one and a half minute long tremors were noted shocking everybody.”
Fr. José reports that missionary men and women are in good health and continue their works in these areas.

“The earthquake destroyed at least 57 homes and damaged another 65, the commission said. It said 14 schools were damaged, as were two Roman Catholic churches and three bridges.
Democracy Bridge, which spans the country’s largest river, the Ulua, collapsed in the town of El Progreso, Cordero said. The bridge is one of two connecting the northern city of San Pedro Sula, Honduras’ second-largest, with the rest of the country. The second bridge was deemed safe.”
