aussiecmA project to remove graffiti was initiated when Ashfield Council (Sidney) received letters from students at St Vincent’s Parish Primary School asking if they would improve a pedestrian underpass and remove all of the ‘bad words’.  The students also said that they found the tunnel ‘scary’. (From a story on the website of the Australian province of the CM.)

The Underline Project, the transformation of a local pedestrian underpass near Ashfield (Sydney) Railway Station into a ‘walk-through art gallery’ , was the culmination of a year long partnership between Ashfield Council (Sydney), RailCorp, local residents and schools.  Previously, there was a lot of graffiti and tagging activity in the tunnel and many people were avoiding using it as a quick and easy means to get from one side of the railway to the other.   The project was initiated when Ashfield Council received letters from students at St Vincent’s Parish Primary School asking if they would improve the tunnel and remove all of the ‘bad words’.  The students also said that they found the tunnel ‘scary’.
