During the month of April, about 250 Passing on the Gift ceremonies will be hosted by Heifer International worldwide, as families who have benefitted from Heifer’s gifts “pay it forward” to others.
Heifer is a non-profit organization dedicated to ending hunger and caring for the Earth. It provides goats, chickens, bees, cows and other assitance to participating families and teaches them about sustainable farming techniques. The families who receive the donated resources pledge in time to also pass on the gifts – often the first offspring of their livestock – to more neighbors facing hunger and poverty. “For more than six decades, Passing on the Gift has been a cornerstone of Heifer’s mission to end hunger and fight poverty, and these ceremonies are a tradition that becomes even more important during the world economic crisis,” says Heifer’s CEO.
