The prayer of the Vincentian family asks Christ to help us recognize him in the poor – “in their thirst, their hunger, their loneliness.” The SSVDPS in Ireland is promoting a “know your neighbour” weekend to help address social isolation.
Mairead Bushnell, national president of the SSVPS in Ireland says that the organization is “seeing more and more people suffering the consequences of loneliness, social deprivation and family separation.” And those suffering go beyond the elderly, and include young parents and teens. As a result, it is joining Macra na Feirme, a largely rural organisation, in promoting the “Know your neighbour” weekend to draw attention to “importance of getting back in touch.”
