The situation in the U.S. is no less troubling than that in Australia. In the U.S. 3.5 million will experience homelessness in a give year. Despite the image far too many have of homeless persons as those unwilling to work, 25% of the homeless in the United States are employed. Moreover, more than one-third of the homeless are families with children and children under the age of 18 constitute 39% of the homeless population.
