In keeping with Sisters of Charity’s tradition of ministering to immigrants, the congregation’s Office of Peace Justice and Integrity of Creation hosted a special study program on the topic on March 24 at their Delhi Township (Cinncinati, Ohio) motherhouse.
Immigration is a “relevant and urgent topic that needs to be studied,” said Sister Louise Akers, co-coordinator of the office, in explaining the need for a program of this kind. “Also, at our recent chapter meeting, the congregation made a public statement regarding the issue.”Sister of Charity Donna Steffen gives the group a report on the border along the southern United States at the immigration conference.
The statement expresses the Sisters of Charity’s support for the pastoral letter issued jointly by the bishops of the United States and Mexico, Strangers No Longer: Together on the Journey, which spells out the need for reform to the current immigration system, Sister Louise explained.
