The Sisters of Charity have regained the deed for the Motherhouse property at Mount Saint Vincent University. In August 2004, the Sisters and United Gulf announced a $350-million development for the 350,000-square-foot Motherhouse and a surrounding 30-hectare property in Rockingham.

United Gulf planned an ambitious residential-commercial development that would have included a renovated retirement residence at the south end of the Motherhouse to accommodate 90 elderly nuns.

The renovation was scheduled to be have been completed by December 2005, but construction ground to a halt last year, leaving the building exposed to the elements and forcing the nuns to hire contractors to make it weather-tight for the winter.
