The Holy See’s permanent observer mission to the United Nations is co-sponsoring with the Vincentian Center for Church and Society at SJU a February 27th conference.
NEW YORK, JAN. 17, 2007 (Zenit.org).- The Holy See’s permanent observer mission to the United Nations wants to address the scourge of violence against women in contemporary society.

To do so, it has convoked a day of reflection for Feb. 27, co-sponsored by the Path to Peace Foundation and the Vincentian Center for Church and Society

The day of reflection coincides with a meeting of the U. N. Commission on the Status of Women.

The panel of speakers, moderated by Marilyn Martone, a theology professor at St. John’s University, will address topics such as domestic violence, sexual exploitation of women and girls, and gender violence.

This event seeks to identify the social, economic and legal problems that violence inflicts upon women and discuss these issues through the prism of the dignity of the human person.

These conferences are planned in conjunction with upcoming U.N. meetings on the topic.
