According to a report from the Society of St Vincent de Paul, it has privately funded more than 1,000 psychological assessments of children and young people, despite the fact that such assessments should be available to children free of charge through the National Educational Psychological Service (NEPS)…. the revelation that charitable organisations are now ‘picking up the slack’ for the Government by commissioning and paying for private psychological assessments confirms that an additional allocation should have been made.

“The Government should be ashamed to rely on charities to provide services to those who need them and who are entitled to assistance from the State”, Ms Enright added.
