The Permanent Observer Mission of the Holy See Mission to the United Nations, along with St. John’s University’s Vincentian Center for Church and Society and the Path to Peace Foundation, will host a side event on September 13 at the United Nations headquarters. This will be the first-ever plenary session of the United Nations General Assembly on International Migration and Development and will be held on September 14-15, 2006.This forum: The Human Dignity of Women in Contemporary Society: Issues and Best Practices in Migration and Refugee Services will identify key social, economic and legal issues impacting women migrants and refugees within home and host countries; describe current best practices and the applied ethics approach to issues of migration; and provide a forum for the exchange of experiences across nations.
