The Sisters of Charity of Nazareth are closely watching developments in Mumbai, India given news reports that seven bomb blasts rocked rail stations and trains this morning killing 147 people and injuring 439. We have three Sisters living in Mumbai and the President of our Congregation, Shalini D’Souza, is a native of the city formerly known as Bombay.
This morning we were able to briefly speak with one of our Sisters in India. We are awaiting more information from her but understand that our Sisters living in Mumbai are safe.
According to news reports, India’s major cities are now on high alert. We are concerned for the safety of our more than 200 Sisters in ministry across India.
Our Sisters here in Kentucky are closely monitoring the situation as they pray for the safety of our Sisters in India as well as the victims of these attacks.
