CANTON – The Sisters of Charity Foundation of Canton has distributed $717,993 to 25 agencies and organizations in its second quarter of 2006.
The grants were given to Good Samaritan and Responsive grantees and organizations involved in the foundation’s strategic initiatives.
The 2006 Responsive Grant Awards recipients are:
* Aphesis, matching up to $7,500 for funding to continue the Deliverance over Alcohol and Drugs program for black men.
* Arlington Avenue Church of God, matching up to $6,000 for support of the Book Bags of Blessings program.
* Boys and Girls Club of Massillon, matching up to $15,000 for transportation support.
* Boy’s Village, $60,000 for expansion and remodeling of facilities.
* Canton 32nd Degree Masonic Learning Center for Children, $15,000 for a tutoring program for dyslexic children.
* Canton Symphony Orchestra, $15,000 in funding for the Summit Neighborhood Music Experience.
* Catholic Charities of the Diocese of Youngstown, $60,000 for care of migrants and refugees through Centro San José.
* Catholic Consortium (Mercy Medical Center), $2,500 for support for a Hispanic-Latino symposium.
n Church of the Savior United Methodist Church, matching up to $7,500 for a parish nurse program.
n Community Services of Stark County, $101,250 for a building expansion project.
n Domestic Violence Project, $25,000 in funding for an ongoing victim-support services at the safe shelter facility.
n Hospice of Wadsworth-Rittman, $1,828 for a loss and grief program for children.
n J.R. Coleman Senior Outreach Services, matching up to $45,000 (over three years) for the adult day services sliding fee scale.
n Mayor’s Literacy Commission of Canton, $5,000 for adult literacy training services.
n Mercy Medical Center, $56,300 for the Immigrant Health Outreach Program and youth programming and services for Skyline Terrace.
n Phoenix Rising Behavioral Healthcare, $15,000 to support the accreditation process.
n Stark County District Library, $7,500 for provision of kindergarten-readiness backpacks to three branches.
n Stark Social Workers Network G.R.R.I.P. Program, $9,000 for a program to reduce the negative effects of absentee fathers.
n Stark Social Workers Network, $51,125 (over two years), for case management services for three components of the agency’s programming.
n Turning Point of Stark County, matching up to $7,500 for the ABOUT FACE substance-abuse program.
n Walsh University, $12,500 for the Walsh Leadership Institute’s Strategic Leadership Workshops.
n Western Stark County Medical Clinic, matching up to $40,000 to support the medical van for health care for the homeless.
n YMCA of Canton, $15,000 for a social-worker position for homeless services.
n YMCA of Canton, $40,000 for the early childhood program.
The first- and second-quarter 2006 grant awards to a foundation strategic initiative went to the Bethlehem Project for Oral Health for $97,490, including the Community Services of Stark County for the patient provider relations office and Stark County Educational Service Center for home visits including oral health education and dental assessments.
Funds from the 1995 purchase of a 50 percent interest in Mercy Medical Center paved the way for the foundation.
