A group on the island of Malta runs successful fund-raising event for the Daughters of Charity works in Ethiopia

The Living Waters Mission Team collaborates on projects run by the Daughters of Charity Nuns in Ethiopia. Team members travel to Ethiopia at their own expense to follow up projects, meet the people, carry out teaching, nursing and other hands-on jobs as may be required.

All the funds will go towards the Living Waters Team’s worthy projects in Ethiopia. … The Living Waters Mission Team projects in Ethiopia to-date include:

• Grinding mills to facilitate corn-grinding in the women’s own community instead of having to walk to other villages;

• Kindergarten projects including one at a cost of Lm 20,000 in Pawe with a very harsh climate and widespread malaria, which did not have a community school at all;

• Water pump projects, as clean water is not available, subjecting people to a number of diseases including dysentery. The team fundraised successfully for water pumps in Edida, Doha, Maksegnit and there are many more pumps to follow in other villages. Each pump costs Lm1,350;

• Housing projects in Bahir Dar for destitute people living near a wasteland. The five-year project will cost Lm 120,000;

• Child sponsoring in places such as Bahir Dar, Bonga, Konchi and Pawe – A Lm15 a year contribution gives a child food for a year and covers teachers’ and cooks’ salaries, and provides basic education.
