On the 18th May Daughters of Charity from the British Province joined
1,000 Religious men and women in lobbying Parliament as part of the
British MAKE POVERTY HISTORY campaign. They came from the four corners
of Britain to emphasise the moral imperative which the UK Government has
to eradicate poverty. They came to show solidarity by speaking out on
behalf of the 1.3 billion voiceless people living on less than a dollar
a day. They came to make their voice heard because the Gospel demands
it.

Sister Susan Viney, Daughters of Charity, said her meeting with Clare
Short, former Secretary for International Development had gone very
well.

“She said a lot of words are being said about poverty to make a nice
show but it’s very complex and a lot depends on the stability of
governments. It was great to meet her and talk with her and we really
felt her heart was in the issues.”
