BRIDGEPORT — John K. Fisher, the second president of St. Vincent’s College, will be formally inaugurated at a ceremony to be held April 9 at the University of Bridgeport’s Mertens Theater.
Fisher, previously president of Norwalk State Technical College and dean of academic affairs at Norwalk Community College, took over as president of St. Vincent’s last summer.
Since then, the Ridgefield resident has sought to broaden the college’s visibility and programs. This fall, the college expanded into a house at 2936 Main St., around the corner from its main building to provide more classroom and office space. This year, the college experienced an 11.5 percent enrollment boost. In five years, the college enrollment has nearly doubled and stood at 407 last fall.
A college since 1991, St. Vincent’s was founded as a school of nursing by the Daughters of Charity in 1905 and is affiliated with St. Vincent’s Medical Center. The college is in the midst of celebrating its centennial with a series of educational and social events.
