More than 10 million youngsters under the age of five die each year from a variety of preventable causes, the World Health Organization says. More than 40% of the deaths occur in southern and western Africa, based on mortality rates from 2000 to 2003, with pneumonia, diarrhea, malaria and measles the leading causes of death, and poor nutrition being a big underlying factor.  Guardian (London), The (3/25), AlertNet.org/Reuters (3/25), Globe and Mail (Toronto), The (3/25)
