Elizabeth Ann Seton, the first American-born saint and patroness of the university, is a hero of the Catholic faith, and her life should be an example for everyone, Sister Kathleen Flanagan said in her keynote address at the Charter Day celebration Feb. 25 in Kozlowski auditorium.
Charter Day is an annual event that allows the university to reflect and renew its commitment to moral education. The event commemorates an 1861 charter drafted by the state of New Jersey to the original Seton Hall College, which started with only five students.
