SYDNEY, December 10, 2004 (catholicweekly.com.au): In the St Vincent de Paul column this weekend in The Catholic Weekly, SVDP President John O’Neill writes – “As we celebrate Christmas in Australia, we must consider our brothers and sisters who are newly-arrived to the country and who may not have the opportunity to celebrate this special season. Refugees come to Australia to escape a terrible and threatening situation in their home country or refugee camps. They come with little or nothing. ” The St Vincent de Paul Society’s NSW Migrant and Refugee Advisory Committee seeks to offer the support needed to help these new arrivals make a decent life for themselves in Australia.
At Christmas, Society staff and volunteers work to ensure that these families are able to enjoy Christmas with the rest of us.
The above is the opening paragraph from the weekly column President of the St. Vincent DePaul Society in the Catholic Weekly of Australia.
