Tonight (August 31, 2004) members of New York City’s diverse faith communities will join in a nonpartisan event called “Interfaith Ring of Hope Around Manhattan” to support social justice and peace during this election year. At 9:00, as church bells ring out, thousands will turn on their flashlights, holding up a light “to affirm hope to reclaim our spiritual, moral, and democratic values and to establish prophetic justice that prioritizes the needs of the poor and marginalized in America.” This event motivated us to focus on the subject of hope in the Spiritual Literacy in Wartime e-course. We’ve provided links to excerpts by Mary Grey, Jurgen Motlmann, Barbara Kingsolver, Howard Zinn, John Claypool, and Anna Lappe, as well as some suggested practice suggestions.
