From an article called “Lawyers for the Poor,” published in the Fordham Law Journal:
“The big problem with Catholic Social Teaching about the law is that Catholic lawyers and law teachers ignore it, as much as other Christians and Jews ignore the substance behind prophetic anger and courage. We endure the prophets best, and find them least painful, when what they say has been set to music for the holidays. My late law professor colleague, Father Bill Lewers, grew up in Baptist and Episcopal churches. Somebody asked him one day why be became a Catholic. He said it was because he believed in Catholic Social Teaching and, when he joined up, he found out that he was the only one who did.”
