DC in Sheffield England provide Chrsitan presence at New Age Meeting.”A chance conversation often becomes the space in which the Spirit sows new seeds. Such was the case when we, the Daughters of Charity, gathered one evening.
A full page advertisement had been spotted in the local paper for a Mind, Body and Spirit exhibition to be held at Bramhall Lane Conference Centre, Sheffield within the football ground complex.
As we glanced through the list of exhibitions – crystals, tarot cards, spirit guides, massage, native spells – we noticed that there was no ‘Christian presence’ amongst these many new age spiritualities. A decision was made to track down the organisers of the event and request a stall to ‘be a Christian presence’ and be Church where people are….
….The event was an experience which reminded me of Edwina Gateley’s words on going out to Africa, ‘I went expecting to take God there and found he had arrived before me’.
This experience convinced us that as Christians we need to be more proactive in moving out beyond the traditional places of church to be a prayerful presence, and a channel for the Spirit in the chance encounters and conversations that allow the Spirit to sow new seeds.
