Sr. Celine, Provincial of the Daughters of Charity in Melbourne, Australia celebrates the 60 anniversary of their work in a residential school for children with disability.
The following is from the Mass booklet….
In 1943 the Daughters of Charity of St. Vincent de Paul were entrusted with the work of Marillac House by Archbishop Mannix. THe first sisters to live and work at Marillac House were Sisters Louise Ross, Teresa Rowe, Pauline Delaney and Bedrnadette Laxton.
Archbishop Mannix’s vision was the establishment of a special residentail school for children with a disability. Today Marillac continues this proud tradtion offering accommodation, outreach and educational services to children and adults with a disability.
While Marillac has changed much over these 60 years the core values of the service remains – individual care and respect, a community of compassion and empowerment, quality, professional service and innovative programs, partnership between the sisters and the laity with strong links to the broader community.
