More than 250 St. John’s University volunteers went out to work with civic and charitable groups in communities near the campuses in Queens, Staten Island, Oakdale, Manhattan and Rome, Italy.
Second Annual University Service Day saw scores of students, alumni, faculty, staff and other University employees play an active role in serving those in need. The theme of the day was “What a Difference a Day Makes.”

They went out fired up by the theme, “What a Difference a Day Makes” in their own lives and the lives of the people around them. Teams of five to ten volunteers helped agencies and organizations like Catholic Charities, Momma’s House, Covenant House, Chapin and Ozanam Nursing Homes, Variety Boys and Girls Club of Queens, Goodwill Industries, St. Mary’s Hospital for Children and Habitat for Humanity. The campus Society of St. Vincent De Paul organized a sandwich drive and volunteers distributed them to the homeless in New York City.
